25 Gifts For Writers– 2015 Edition
I have to tell you, this is my FAVORITE post to write each year! I keep hoping that some of these goodies will show up under MY Christmas tree…
And because I’m sooooo on top of it in 2015 (tongue in cheek!) I’m writing this post before Black Friday/Cyber Monday so hopefully you can get some great ideas before you start your gift-buying in earnest!
If you’re anything like me, I always get the best shopping ideas from the gift buying lists! Here’s a list of gifts for writers that that are sure to thrill any writer on your list. Or maybe you’ll pick up a gift or two for yourself!
And to make your shopping for the perfect writer’s gift a bit easier, just click on the name of the item to be taken directly to where you can purchase it! (It may or may not be an affiliate link, depending on if the retailer offers that option)
Great gifts for #writers! Click To TweetThis is the third year I’ve done this post. Some are repeats (’cause they’re just that good!) and others have been bumped off the list.

And be sure to share this post with folks who will be shopping for writers! There are tweets sprinkled throughout and shares on Facebook or Pinterest are ALWAYS great too!
So here’s the 2015 Gifts For Writer’s Guide:
Magnetic Poetry Kit
Do me a favor, buy several different word kits! A great gift is to include these with a cookie sheet (double check the magnets stick) so your fav writer doesn’t even have to leave the desk!
Coffee Joulies
OMG! Somebody PLEASE buy these for me! My tea… I mean COFFEE is always getting cold. This is a stunningly gorgeous metal “bean” that keeps your hot drink at the perfect drinking temperature of 140 for HOURS. It’s one bean per 4 ounces of liquid.
If you hate being in the middle of something amazing and needing to stop to nuke your coffee (or tea!) this is for you!
Fingerless Gloves with Book Quotes
Available in a variety of literary patterns, these gloves just look so cool! (Yes, they’re on my Christmas list!) My office gets chilly for a pair of fingerless gloves is a MUST so I can keep typing away – without having to turn on the furnace for the whole house!
And if you must wear fingerless gloves… Then THESE are the gloves to wear!
Liquor
Offer up your writer her favorite brand of liquid brains and watch her eyes light up! Suggestions include:
- Baileys (any flavor!)
- Jack Daniels Honey Whiskey
- Fat Tire Beer
- Hard apple cider (my 2014 drink of choice!)
Writer’s Unwinding Cocktail, aka Caramel Apple Tinis
Ingredients
– Green apple vodka
– Baileys® Caramel
– Green apple slice (garnish)You know how a shot measuring cup has a big side and a little side? You’ll use both sides for this recipe. 1 “big” shot (1 ounce) Baileys® Caramel. 1 “little” shot (0.5 ounce) green apple vodka. Stir gently.
If you are using a traditional shot glass without a measure marks, the ratio is 1 to 0.5 Baileys® to vodka.
Garnish with a green apple slice if you have it.
I mix up a batch of this and keep it chilled until I’m ready to drink it. I even have tiny plastic bottles that each hold two drink’s worth. As long as the 1 to 0.5 ratio of Baileys® to vodka, everything tastes wonderful.
My only dislike of this recipe is that it’s too yummy! It’s really easy to go overboard on it!

D’Vyne Wrytes Leather Journal
I thought long and hard about suggesting a blank journal for the writer in your life. Frankly, we all have something that is “the perfect journal” and I always get a little cranky when I get a journal that doesn’t match that ideal. But Leslie’s stuff is just fantastic and I can’t recommend it enough. I have three or four of her journals!
(And they make GREAT gifts to clients as well!)
Walls Need Love Erasable Decal
I have the monthly calendar in… wait for it… gold! This company is AWESOME! Not only do they make an awesome product, their customer service is excellent as well! (They replaced a damaged decal free of charge for me!) The decals are reasonably easy to install as well, even over textured drywall.
This is the perfect go-to solution for the writer in your life to help organize the book in a fancier way than JUST a dry erase board. Available in dry erase and chalkboard with a TON of really cool patterns!
Cup Cozies
Keep your mug snuggly and your hands from getting tired with a cup cozie from Knit2Create. These are all hand-knitted and come in a variety of patterns. Perfect for your mug that holds the good stuff – writer’s fuel. Aka: coffee!
And rumor has it there’s a GREAT sale going on through Cyber Monday 2015!
Pencil Box Dress
How cute is this? (The company also has them in leggings!) While this dress would also be great for artists, every author has a magnetic attraction to a freshly sharpened pencil. This dress is available in a bunch of sizes for the authors in your life!
How fun would it be to show up at your next business networking event or conference with this dress and hand out copies of your book?
Pencil & Sharpener Earrings
These are also available in green! They’re funny and so perfect for the writer in your life!
Scrabble
Okay, okay MOST authors will probably already own Scrabble! Except for me. I use my parent’s board which is older than I am. Soooooo, if you’re looking for a gift for me, get me Scrabble! Or travel Scrabble. But not ‘Words with Friends’ — that’s cheating. (Speaking of cheating, I cheat at Scrabble. shhhhh – don’t tell!)
William Shakespeare Air Freshener
An air freshener by any other name would not smell as sweet as one decorated with the image of the immortal bard.
Rory’s Story Cube Complete Set
There’s just something awesome about story generators… With these cubes, you just give them a roll and then use the images to kick-start your ideas. Unlike cubes with colors or words, you don’t need a key to decipher what’s going on.
Even if you’re writing non-fiction, sometimes a little mini fiction story starter is all it takes to get the creative juices flowing again!
Writer’s Block
You know I’m always saying that I don’t believe in writer’s block… Well THIS is proof it exists!
Waterproof Notepad to Jot Notes in the Shower (Aqua Notes)
Who doesn’t get GREAT ideas while in the shower and then have nowhere to jot them down? Trust me, running dripping through the house in search of a pad and pen is nobody’s idea of a good thing to do! Enter… Aqua Notes – a waterproof notepad. Too cool!
Pencil Eraser Hats
I love the idea of “stocking stuffers.” Pair these with some #2 pencils and a nice sharpener and you’ve got it made!
A gift card for a massage
After spending hours at the computer, a massage is great! But don’t get a $25 gift card. Go whole hog and spring for a gift card worth a few massages.
By the way, I’d recommend your writer’s favorite masseuse rather than a “big box” massage place. But this is the image I could get. And if it were ME — I’d love a massage even if it was a home made coupon good for a shoulder rub from my honey!
Edgar Allan Poe Action Figure
Never more would you get stumped writing an article or scene. Just ask Mr. Allan what the Raven would say and you’re on your way! And, let’s face it, he’d look cool on your desk!
Computer Keyboard Doormat
While this would TECHNICALLY also be great for a computer programmer, it’s a great gift for a writer! You can wipe your shoes and think up your next best-seller all in one fell swoop! But you want to hurry; Amazon says these are limited and they won’t be getting more.
Novelty Flash Drive
These are food but there are HUNDREDS of possibilities out there! My favorite is my Angry Birds flash drive. Makes me giggle with every file transfer!
Brain Power Essential Oils
These are great if you put a drop on your wrists, diffuse in a diffuser or put a drop or two on a clay disk (a broken terra cotta pot works GREAT) to let it fill the room with scent. These are some great blends to boost creativity or brain power. If you’re looking for a single, I personally find lemon to work the best for me!
Jane Austen Temporary Tattoos
Not interested in temporary tattoos? You can also get bandages! I’m not a huge fan of Ms. Austen myself (don’t get me wrong, she’s okay) but the idea of sporting a Jane Austen tattoo (or bandage on my paper cut) is just beyond cool!
Writer Pendant
A way to subtly announce who you are! I also love how it just reaffirms that YES, I am a writer! Frankly, if I opened a little box under the tree with this in it, I’d put it on and never take it off!
This way their favorite writing fuel will be delivered directly to the doorstep; no need to pause in writing to run to the grocery store for more. Now if you could only give the writer a gift of a butler who will brew it and serve it too…
Bonus points if you pair this with the coffee joulies above!
The Complete Book of Baby Names
I got my book of baby names in high school. THEN I had to explain why I had it! For characters, people! But a lot of writers won’t invest in this themselves and it’s a great resource!
Subscription to Writer’s Digest
There are only a few magazines for writers out there. Hand’s DOWN this is my favorite! When I was in high school and college, my aunt renewed my subscription every year for Christmas!
Buy Their Book!
As an author, most of the time my sales do not come from my friends and family. Be a peach and buy their book and then leave a positive review. If the book isn’t your cup of tea, buy it anyway and give it to someone or donate it to your local library. Actually PURCHASING their book is a huge show of support — even if you never read it!
