20 Gifts For Writers– 2016 Edition
Seriously, I’ve been dreaming about this post for weeks now. It’s my FAVORITE post to write. And since a couple of these DID end up under the tree for me last year… I’m not excited to do it again or anything! Nope, not me!
If you’re anything like me, I always get the best shopping ideas from the gift buying lists! Here’s a list of gifts for writers that that are sure to thrill any writer on your list. Or maybe you’ll pick up a gift or two for yourself!

Seriously, these things look FUN! Much like Boggle where you roll cubes to make words, here to roll cubes to make POEMS. I’m all about things that help writers tap into creativity and get un-stuck and THIS is it!
Storymatic
I think I might have a previously unknown love of story prompt generators! This card set helps you come up with tons of ideas! Perfect if you need a story prompt to get the juices flowing (or want to give students a prompt).
Pencil Me In Leather Flat
Because pencil ANYTHING is write up our alley! Now I’m not actually much of a flat girl (hello, hiking boots!) but these… I’d make an exception. How adorable would it be to show up at your next networking event with shoes that CLEARLY declare that you’re a writer?
Pencil Bracelet
I’m sure you could MAKE this if you’re into DIY but if not, they’re all over Etsy. These are cute and whimsical and make a fun gift for an artist too!
Literary Scarf
With the familiar feel of your favorite worn-in T-shirt, this bookish scarf lets you get wrapped up in the adventures of the boy who wouldn’t grow up. BTW: This pairs PERFECTLY with the fingerless gloves patterned in text from various famous works. Last year I got the gloves. Yay!

Writers are pretty much in love with the written word. When the written word meets topography… a match made in heaven! These earrings are acrylic so they should be nice and light! If your writer doesn’t wear dangly earrings (I don’t!) then check out this ampersand necklace.
Coffee Subscription
This way their favorite writing fuel will be delivered directly to the doorstep; no need to pause in writing to run to the grocery store for more. Now if you could only give the writer a gift of a butler who will brew it and serve it too…

It doesn’t matter if the writer in your life drinks coffee or tea (or something stronger!) a mug that is all about writing is always appreciated. This mug comes in two sizes or a stainless-steel travel mug – perfect for writers on the go!

These are all hand-knitted and come in a variety of patterns. Perfect for your mug that holds the good stuff – writer’s fuel. Aka: coffee! (As a special bonus, these are hand-made by my friend Kalpna!)
Liquor
This appears on ANY list I compile for writers. But really, sometimes when the words just won’t flow, you need a libation to grease the mental wheels. Or after a hard day. Or a great day. Or because, well, writers.

Alcohol Flask
To go with the booze above! In all honesty, I’d use this flask for EVERYTHING and carry it with me at all times. Although that might have something to do with my intense dislike of salad…
Vinyl Chalkboard Removable Wall Sticker
Because sometimes you just need to think big – and outline a book, chapter, or project. I personally have this so I can attest that it does peel off easily and takes the included chalk well. (If you’re layering several pieces to make a bigger board, start from the BOTTOM so the seams face downward; I put the upper piece on first and then the lower and the seam grabs chalk dust!) Bonus points if you pair it with chalk markers!
Yoga Classes
Trust me… we ALL spend too much time hunched over a keyboard. And while yoga classes always sound like a great idea, I just don’t go. But if somebody gifted me a pass, well, I’d go. After all, it’s rude to let a gift go to waste! If you want to make SURE those classes are used… also gift a yoga mat!
Lumo Lift Posture Coach
While I may never make it to the yoga studio, I do wear this little guy a few days a week. It’s a gentle vibration that reminds me to sit up straight. Personally, I also notice when it’s buzzing a ton (i.e. I’m slouching as soon as I straighten up) then I know it’s time to go for a quick walk around the house!
Infuser Water Bottle
One thing all writers have in common – we spend way too much time in one position and don’t drink enough water. (Coffee, on the other hand? We drink PLENTY of that!) So what about gifting the writer in your life a water bottle that lets them infuse their water with their favorite fruit or herbs? Amazon has a huge selection of bottles to choose from!
Infused Water Recipe Book
Come on! If you don’t give them an idea, writers will plunk in a lemon and call it good. Why ask them to save their creativity for the page when they can get creative with water? This book has 100 tested recipes (yes, I tested them!) to make things super easy.

Never more would you get stumped writing an article or scene. Just ask Mr. Poe what the Raven would say and you’re on your way! And, let’s face it, he’d look cool on your desk! By the way, this website has action figures for some other authors as well and a huge selection of authorly “gag” gifts that are anything but hokey.
Gourmet Chocolate
Writers love chocolate the way… well, like anybody loves chocolate. Only more so. Because, well, chocolate! So be good to your writer and buy her a really decadent box of chocolate. But don’t just grab something – ask her first to know what she prefers. Me? I’m in love with dark chocolate but think milk is just okay. And white? Yuck!
Buy Their Book!
As an author, most of the time my sales do not come from my friends and family. Be a peach and buy their book and then leave a positive review. If the book isn’t your cup of tea, buy it anyway and give it to someone or donate it to your local library. PURCHASING their book is a huge show of support — even if you never read it!
And for heaven’s sake… whatever you do buy, be sure to wrap it in this FREE, editable and printable word search gift wrap. Even if you hate DIY projects, this is just too cool to pass up!
And one last thing: while it’s tempting to buy the writer in your life a journal, notebook, or fancy pen… don’t! Writers a. have a love of office supplies so we buy plenty of it ourselves; b. are extremely picky about what we like and only use what we love. If you really want to give writing utensils, then a gift card to a stationary store is awesome. Or get something so decorative the writer doesn’t feel bad just LOOKING at the gift and never using it!
